BitGo
BitGo is a Bitcoin company in the Custody category, founded in 2013 by Mike Belshe, Ben Davenport, Will O'Brien, Bill Lee.

The Idea
Multi-signature Bitcoin security for institutions. In its self-managed model, three keys, one held by BitGo and two by the wallet owner, mean BitGo alone can never move funds. BitGo also offers full qualified custody, where it holds at least two of the three keys and safeguards the assets directly for clients who want a regulated custodian.
Early Traction
BitGo was the first institutional-grade multi-sig custody solution, with the client holding at least two of the three keys so funds could never move without them. Goldman Sachs investing was a strong signal.
Peak Stats
Assets under custody grew from roughly $31B at the end of 2024 to over $104B by late 2025. In early 2026 BitGo went public in the first digital asset IPO of the year, pricing above its range at a valuation north of $2B.
Status Today
Active. Publicly traded. Received a federal bank charter from the OCC in December 2025, becoming a federally chartered digital asset bank.
Why It Matters
BitGo quietly became a cornerstone of institutional Bitcoin custody. Its multi-sig approach became the standard, and it proved that you could build a business around the problem of key management.
