Bitcoin Magazine is a Bitcoin company in the Media & Marketplaces category, founded in 2012 by Vitalik Buterin, Mihai Alisie.
The Idea
The first serious publication dedicated to Bitcoin and digital assets. Alisie reached out to Buterin in September 2011 about starting a print publication. The first issue went to print in May 2012.
Early Traction
Bitcoin Magazine was the original publication of record for the industry, published from South Korea in its early days.
Peak Stats
Became the flagship media brand for Bitcoin. Hosts the annual Bitcoin Conference (the largest Bitcoin event in the world). The Nashville 2024 conference featured a keynote by then-candidate Donald Trump.
Status Today
Acquired by Nakamoto in 2026, having previously operated under BTC Inc.
Why It Matters
The co-founder of Bitcoin Magazine, Vitalik Buterin, went on to create Ethereum. Bitcoin Magazine itself became a media backbone of the Bitcoin community and its annual conference is the industry's largest gathering.
